Introduction

Citi ThankYou Points (hereafter – TY) is one of the bank loyalty programs that provides high flexibility and the opportunity to transfer points to numerous airline loyalty programs. The process of points transfer is quite simple with no hidden tricks, but if you are unsure how to transfer your points and which airline program to choose, read our step-by-step guide on TY points transfer to airline programs.

Step 1. Setting up your account or signing in

Open the ThankYou.com website in your browser and take a look at the right upper corner. You will see a “Sign On” button as it is displayed on the screenshot below.

Click on the button and wait until you are redirected to the ThankYou authorization page. Now, if you have already registered your Citi online account, fill in the required fields, click “Sign On” and proceed to Step 2 of this manual.

If you do not have an online Citi account, click the “Register your Citi online account” link. The location of this link is indicated on the screenshot below.

After you click on this link, you will be forwarded to the registration page. Provide all the information required by the registration system, and complete the registration process. After that, log in to the system as described in the beginning of this step.

Step 2. Choose the airline program for points transfer

Numerous airline loyalty programs are eligible for TY points transfer. The table below shows the eligible airlines, points transfer rate, and required time for points to be transferred. The points transfer rate is the number of airline points you will receive in exchange for TY points. Keep in mind that for most airline programs, TY points need some time to appear on the account balance after transfer, and we therefore suggest you look for an award ticket in advance of your travel.

Note: The moment right before you transfer your TY points, the system will tell you that the points transfer might take up to 14 days. Don’t worry – usually this is not the case and the points will appear in the time frame indicated in the table below.

It is necessary to register the desired airline program before you transfer your TY points to it (the points transfer won’t be available until you have an airline account set up).

After you log in to your account, click the “ThankYou from Citi” button located in the right menu, right above the number of your TY points.

Now take a look at the upper menu. Point your mouse to the “More Ways to Redeem”. After you do that, a dropdown menu will appear with a  “Points Transfer” link. Click on it.

After you click on “Points Transfer”, the system will redirect you to the list of airlines eligible for TY points transfer. Find the airline you want to transfer points to and click on the “Transfer Now” button (located to the right of the menu).

Step 3. Transfer points

Finally, the system will display a page where you have to indicate the number of TY points to transfer. The number of points transferred must be in increments of 1,000. Thus, 1,000 of points is the smallest amount eligible for transfer, and there is no cap on the number of points that can be transferred.

Once you input the number of TY points, the system will also display the number of points that will appear on your airline account as per  the transfer rate (you can return to the table above to double-check it). Also, you have to enter your name, airline membership number and your name. See the screenshot below to navigate the points transfer page.

Finally, mark the checkbox to accept the terms and conditions and click on the “Transfer Points” button. Now you just have to wait a bit for the transfer to be processed.
